Jayce Questions
Where did Jayce get the Ring of Light? What exactly is it?
Jayce obtained the Ring of Light in Escape from the Garden. It was given to him by Gillian, who had hidden it in his garden. The Ring of Light once belonged to the leader of the original Lightning League. It is a symbol of leadership as well as a magic talisman that can save the day when all other hope is lost.
Based on the ram-like humanoid face that hovered briefly above it at the end of the Bloodstone episode, it is possible that a magical spirit dwells within the Ring of Light to power it. This is reminiscent of the djinn (genies), the Ring of Solomon, and the magical jewellry of ancient times.
How old is Jayce?
He appears to be about 20 years old. His exact age is never given in the series. Based on the fact that he once met the teenaged Audric, who Gillian said was "just about Jayce's age" in Time Lens, it sounds like Jayce is in his late teens.
What does the name Jayce mean?
The exact origin of the name is uncertain, but The Root is pretty sure that it is short for Jason. Jason was a mythical Greek hero who searched for the Golden Fleece with the help of the Argonauts, much like Jayce searches for his father with the help of the Lightning League. Incidentally, the typical psychological profile of people with the name of Jayce matches the character perfectly. According to an internet name database, the name Jayce means someone has depth and breadth of mind. Jayces are able to retain facts, to grasp and analyze new ideas quickly, and to easily relate new information to their existing store of knowledge. Jayces never seem to be out of their depth of understanding. For these reasons others who may not have the same quickness of mind tend to classify Jayces as "know-it-alls." Jayces have a very responsible nature, are capable and mature, and are willing to assume a position as a pillar of the community. Their ability to organize and direct the efforts of others inclines them towards business and leadership pursuits. Sounds like our guy, eh?
Where is Jayce's mother?
Jayce's mother is never seen or mentioned in the series. Presumably she is long dead.
Why do Jayce and his father look like they have skunk hair?
Genetics. Just as some people inherit blue eyes or red hair, Jayce and Audric were blessed with white streaks by their family tree. In Time Lens, the teenage Audric is seen to have a white streak, and Jayce is certainly still young, so age apparently isn't a factor. (Lizzard's Note: It has been suggested that the similarly white-streaked Rogue, of X-Men fame, is Jayce's long-lost sister. Cute idea, but no.)
Why does Jayce drive Armed Force in every episode?
Gillian originally built Armed Force for Audric, and then gave it to Jayce when his father was unable to join them. It is for the most part his personal vehicle. Besides, Spike Trike looks like a door wedge and Drill Sergeant is a wee phallic.
Why does Jayce get to be the leader of the Lightning League?
Jayce has the essential talent to lead. He is an incredible tactician, has a quick and sharp mind, and possesses a powerful will. Plus, thanks to Gillian's vehicle security designs, he is the only one whose verbal commands are recognized by the vehicles. That is why the Ring of Light was given to him, thus making him the leader.
Why is Jayce the only one who can command the Lightning League vehicles?
Jayce is the one who has the communicator that is used to control them. Gillian designed this communicator and the vehicles to respond only to Jayce's voice. This provides a certain level of vehicle security. Other people can drive the vehicles under manual control, but Jayce can override their commands by remote at any time.
Does Jayce have a girlfriend?
Yes and no. Like Captain Kirk, Jayce has a tendency to attract every princess and common woman he encounters on his adventures. He often reciprocates. For instance, he's flirted with Selena, from Darksinger, Kiandra, from The Sleeping Princess, and Ina, from Blockade Runners. But no, he has no formal girlfriend. He's far too busy on his quest to waste time with hanky-panky.
