THE ROOT: Wheeled Warriors FAQ: Saw Boss Questions
|
Saw Boss Questions
Is it Saw Boss or Sawboss?
Official documents have it both ways. For the sake of simplicity, The Root uses Saw Boss throughout its pages, but Sawboss is equally correct. However, it should be noted that all other vehicles and troopers have two-word names. The presence of the one-word version of this name may be an error that was never corrected.
What is this "Black Light" that Saw Boss keep referring to?
The French storybook L'Evasion seems to indicate that the Black Light is a physical force that pre-existed the Monster Minds. According to the storybook, the spirits of the Black Light possessed Audric's plants and helped turn them into the Monster Minds. In the cartoon series, on the other hand, it is said that the Monster Minds were created solely by radiation. The term Black Light is only used in the episodes to collectively refer to the Monster Minds and their forces, plant-based and otherwise. Thus, in the cartoon Saw Boss is the leader of the Black Light, while the French storybook implies that he is merely working for them.
If Saw Boss is such hot poop, why does he have such a dumb name?
This is an unwritten rule for 80s television shows. If you're the leading villain on a cartoon series, you will have a stupid name. Besides Saw Boss, the 80s saw Big Boss (C.O.P.S.), Mumm-Ra (Thundercats), Skeletor (He-Man), and Mon-Star (Silverhawks). And let's not forget Gargamel, the Smurf hater whose name sounded like something you'd do with mouthwash.
Is it just me, or is Saw Boss wearing a speedo?
Does Saw Boss ever get up off his duff?
Actually, yes, he does. There are a few episodes in which Saw Boss leaves his headquarters entirely, and even more in which he stands up in order to make Hitler-style gestures. In general, however, Saw Boss likes to remain seated on his plump vegetable butt. What a soldier.
Exactly why is Saw Boss trying to take over the universe?
Some say he's just a dirty bastard. Others support the grand theory that Saw Boss is actually a pawn in a divine war between good and evil. (Lizzard's Note: I incline more toward the bastard idea.) The story writers themselves never offered a satisfactory reason. Their take on it seems to be that Saw Boss wants to take over the universe just because he can.
