Swampwitch

Appeared In:   Swampwitch

Occupation:   "Spirit of the Swamp" (to quote Flora)

Special Abilities:

  • Connection to Swamp: Swampwitch is the master of her realm. She can merge her essence with the swamp at will. She knows all that grows in her land and is aware of everything that takes place there. The swamp is her place of power, where her strength comes from.

  • Magical Powers: Swampwitch can use a number of nature-related magics. Her mystical powers come from within herself as well as from the swamp. Most of her magics center around alterations and elementalism, specifically regarding plants and animals.

    Examples include...

      * Creating golden force-field bubbles to capture and transport people.

      * Scanning a person's body to discover their origins.

      * Scrying current events outside her swamp via an opened flower.

      * Summoning huge tree giants and water reptiles to attack enemies.

      * Summoning huge green roots out of the earth to grab flying fish, people, and vehicles.

      * Teleportation.

      * Even merging with her swamp and magically moving the entire thing off-planet. (Lizzard's Note: Uhm, wow. That certainly is one way to pack.)

Swampwitch accesses her magical energies by concentrating and saying the words "Shallah Shamar." Swampwitch's magic is accompanied by a sparkling, glittering effect.

Personal Pet/Familiar:

Daboon is a long, thin, yellow snake with brown stripes. He is usually curled around Swampwitch's shoulders in order to observe the immediate area. Daboon can understand Swampwitch, and vice versa. Before the arrival of Flora, Daboon was Swampwitch's only personal companion.

Appearance:

Swampwitch is a tall, thin, ageless woman with a narrow face. She has long lavender hair, green eyes, violet eyeshadow, and reddish lipstick. She wears blue gloves, a dark blue tri-pointed hat with red swirling accents, a dark blue floor-length dress, and a red medieval "Y" belt. She also wears a blue-black floor-length cape with puffy sleeves, red accents, and two gold chains at chest level. Swampwitch usually has Daboon draped over her shoulders.

(Think Morgan le Fey as a nature spirit, not evil but following the rules of nature instead of humans.)

Strengths:

Swampwitch has magical powers over all plants, especially those in her own swamp. She has total magical control over the land, the lifeforms, and the energies in her realm. She has lived for at least a thousand years. She knows all of the plants' mysteries. Because Swampwitch is thought to be only a legend, not many disturb her serenity. She has powerful allies in the Lightning League.

Weaknesses:

Because Swampwitch is so deeply connected with her swamp, anything that hurts it hurts her. As the damage grows worse, her strength ebbs and powers fade. When this occurs, she can only use her magic through another plant-based lifeform, such as Flora. Swampwitch is somewhat isolated from people and is thus lacking in common manners. She has a paranoid tendency to see all intruders to her domain as enemies. Swampwitch can be overly demanding and often uses her powers to get her own way.

History:

Swampwitch is a powerful nature spirit who draws her magic and life-energy from the swamp. Most believe her only to be a legend. She has dwelt alone for the last thousand years.

Swampwitch once lived on the planet Marg, which lay beyond the Phantom Nebula. Saw Boss heard the legends about Swampwitch and sent a strike force to Marg to capture her. The Lightning League, tipped off by Jal Gorda, managed to get there first.

Swampwitch sensed intruders in her realm, and scryed inside one of her flowers to see who disturbed her serenity. She saw Flora, who was in the process of mentally scanning the swamp, and was intrigued. She captured Flora in a force-bubble and prevented the League vehicles, Gillian, and Brock from following her by binding them with giant roots. Swampwitch spoke with Flora and was surprised to learn that she too had been "born of a flower."

When Swampwitch sensed the Monster Minds entering her realm, she summoned giant roots and tree-giants to destroy them. She arrogantly declared that she needed no help and that the League should not have come to Marg. When Flora threatened to leave, Swampwitch relented and freed the bound League members.

Swampwitch then enjoyed showing the mysteries of her realm to Flora for a time. But her happiness did not last.

When Saw Boss installed a solar prism over the swamp, the resulting heat sapped Swampwitch's energy and powers. She told Flora to run, but the little girl refused to leave her side. Gillian arrived and asked for Swampwitch's help in fighting off the Monster Minds. The weakened Swampwitch was able to use her magical powers through Flora, bringing forth giant roots, tree-giants, and water reptiles that decimated the enemy forces.

Jayce turned the solar prism against the Monster Mind headquarters and Saw Boss was forced to teleport away.

Swampwitch stated that she would go "someplace where the evil may not follow," and invited Flora to come, too. Flora declined, but it was apparent that they would miss each other terribly. Swampwitch hugged Flora goodbye, and gave her a rare plant to remember her by. She also bade the League farewell, promising never to forget them. Swampwitch then merged her essence with the swamp and lifted the entire thing off the planet, heading out into space for an unknown destination.
