Vendetta

Appeared In:   Vendetta

Occupation:   Gambler

Equipment:

  • Asteroid: For a time, Vendetta had her own private asteroid. The asteroid appeared empty on the outside but inside its hollow center were various buildings, complicated machinery, and thousands of colored lights. The asteroid was where Vendetta kept all of her games and robot servants. It was her home as well as her base of operations. It was destroyed when it plunged into a nearby sun.

  • Games: On her asteroid, Vendetta had many oversized versions of popular games from throughout the universe, such as a/an...

      * Enormous pinball machine.

      * Giant remote-control Spacegammon table.

      * Laser Ball court.

      * Oversized robotic chess table.

  • Robots: Vendetta has various robot guards and servants.

    The guards act as her muscle. They obey her commands without question. They look like small chess pawns. Extendable arms allow them to reach out and grab objects. They apparently have incredible strength, as they once pulled the Space Scooter down out of the sky.

    Vendetta also owns Cookie the Rookie, a robotic companion. Cookie can think on her own and has a soft spot for Oon.

Appearance:

    Vendetta is an older woman with blue eyes, a gaunt face, and some age lines. She has long blond hair, which she wears in an utterly frightful arrangement -- it sticks straight up like the Bride of Frankenstein! Vendetta wears a dark blue jumpsuit. The jumpsuit has a high collar, long puffy blue-and-white striped sleeves, an orange diamond symbol on the belly, and puffy lined pants. Her boots are blue with orange heart-shaped knee patches. She wears large orange diamond-shaped earrings. (Lizzard's Note: It's Tammy Fae Baker!)

Strengths:

    Vendetta is an expert gambler. She has some spacecraft piloting skills. Presumably she also has some technical skills and accumulated winnings, as she was able to create and maintain her asteroid.

Weaknesses:

    Vendetta thinks it is imperative to win, even if she has to cheat to do so. She never forgets a debt owed to her and will gripe and fret until it is paid. (Lizzard's Note: She also has the fashion sense of the damned. If that's not a weakness, I don't know what is.)

History:

    Vendetta is one of the best gamblers in the galaxy. At some time in the past, she gambled with Herc Stormsailor and he left without paying the debt. She never forgot this treachery. Years later, Saw Boss pressured her to lure the Lightning League into a trap using one of Audric's old laboratory tapes.

    When the Pride landed on her asteroid, she offered Jayce the chance to win the tape by playing her games, located in the Tunnel of Challenge. Jayce managed to win all the games, but was unable to retrieve the tape from the pinball machine where it was hidden, having chosen to save his friends instead.

    Vendetta spoke with Herc and reminded him of his debt. She offered him a choice -- pay right then, or play a game of Spacegammon with the Pride as the stakes. She cheated in order to win. She then tied Herc up, loaded her stuff onto the barge, and left.

    The Lightning League was left on Vendetta's asteroid, which they discovered was on a crash course with a sun. But Vendetta wouldn't get away so easily -- Herc hadn't yet finished repairing the broken Pride!

    Jayce pursued her on the Space Scooter and landed on the malfunctioning barge. Vendetta was able to shake him off with a deft piloting maneuver, but Jayce soon re-landed. This time he managed to get aboard and steer the Pride back to Vendetta's asteroid in order to save his friends.

    Ashamed, Vendetta confessed that Audric's tape was hidden in the Number 5 flipper on the pinball game. The tape was retrieved and everyone escaped before the asteroid was destroyed.

    In return for saving her life, Vendetta forgave Herc his past debt. She was dropped off at a spaceport by the Lightning League. Her current location is unknown.
