"An Affair Of Honor"
(French Title: "A History Of Honor")
After a weeklong battle, the Lightning League succeeded in repelling a Monster Mind invasion on the Green Planet, home of the last remaining resistance in that galaxy. More vines were seen heading through space, coming their way.
Jayce suggested getting the help of the Intergalactic Commandos. Dumas, the Green Planet natives' leader, countered that all the Commandos quit after their leader, General Ghest, lost his nerve. Herc stated that he used to be a Commando and "the General's no coward." Herc, Jayce, and Oon traveled to the Desert Planet to find the Commandos and enlist their help.
They went undercover and found the General managing a food stall in the Bazaars of Aldoon. When they asked for his help, he ordered them to leave him alone. They removed the Lighting League vehicles from "concealment mode" within the desert and started heading back to the Pride, running into some Monster Mind troopers on the way. With the help of Darrin Ghest (the General's son) and a few Commandos who weren't afraid to fight, they defeated the troopers, burying them beneath the dunes. Both groups joined forces and head off to the Green Planet.
Saw Boss found out about the fight, and offered General Ghest a deal at gunpoint -- if he helped capture Jayce, then Saw Boss would allow the General and his cowardly Commandos to win a battle against the Monster Minds, thus restoring his reputation with them.
Back on the Green Planet, most of the natives had fallen ill. Flora discovered that the Monster Minds have poisoned the drinking water. Thanks to the aid of a native flowering plant, she and Gillian created an antidote.
Just as Jayce was figuring out how to prepare the available forces for the upcoming invasion, the flagship of the Intergalactic Commandos arrived. The General offered his assistance plus the information that Audric is lying wounded in an old fort nearby.
Jayce, Oon, the General, and Darrin drove out to investigate, encountering enemy troopers en route. Upon seeing them, the General became paralyzed with fear. Jayce ordered Spike Trike, Ghest's vehicle, to override manual control and join in the fight. After the battle was over, he had Oon ride with General Ghest the rest of the way.
Seconds before the others would have entered the old fort, the General had a change of heart, warning them it was a Monster Mind trap. While they backed off, he charged straight in.
Herc and dozens of the Commandos provided backup. The Monster Minds were driven far back, retreating beyond that galaxy. Now the Commandos existed once more, under the leadership of a newly re-energized General Ghest.
Flora: "C'mon, Jayce, give it to 'em! No, Jayce, to your right!"
Gillian: "Now, Flora! Battle may be necessary, but taking pleasure in it...! (Jayce nails his target) Ho-ho-ho, nice shot, Jayce! Whoa, that was a splendid one, Jayce!"
Flora: (LOL)
Gillian: "Ah-hem!"
Herc: "I know what you're thinking, kid, but we barely won this round! We don't stand a chance against THAT much ugliness!"
Jayce: "Unless we get help, from the Intergalactic Commandos."
Duma: "Then we're lost! When the Monster Minds took that Desert Planet, the Commandos' beloved leader leader, General Ghest, lost his nerve. So they all quit!"
Herc: "Hold it! I used to BE a Commando! And General Ghest is no coward!"
Jayce: "Good, Herc! Then you'll certainly want to come with Oon and me to get his help, right?"
(Herc shrugs, wearing a martyred "NEVER volunteer for anything" expression)
Herc: "Oh, what am I doing here? I quit because I hated this heat -- and the pay wasn't terrific, either..."
Oon: "Oh, M-M-Master! The sand in my joints is so itchy!"
Herc: "Sir, remember me? Herc Stormsailor, Sergeant First Class -- the Zarkon Campaigns! (Salutes & pulls out a glittering gold medallion) You gave me this medal! You were the bravest man I ever saw."
General Ghest: "There were no Monster Minds in the Zarkon Campaigns..."
Saw Boss: "They fight bitterly, with that accursed boy helping them! I'll use the spores this time! They'll infect the water of the Green Planet, and weaken those who drink it!"
Herc: "That couldn't have been the General -- had to be his twin brother! (Yanks the medal from jacket) Oh, I'm gonna melt down this medal for the gold in it!"
(While being fired upon by Monster Minds in the desert)
Jayce (leader mode): "Herc, they've found us! Let's get out of here!"
Herc (sarcastic mode): "Good thinking, kid!"
Darrin: "Shots! Let's see what's happening! (Runs a little ways only to find no-one following him) Cowards! Aren't you tired of living like frightened rabbits? (As two rabbits flee, he rips away robes to reveal a military uniform & energy rifle) Isn't there anyone who remembers what it meant to be an Intergalactic Commando?!" (Three others join in)
Saw Boss: "I've allowed you to remain alive, General, because you are harmless. Now I want payment for that kindness."
General Ghest: "But I have nothing!"
Saw Boss: "You have your pathetic Commandos..."
Flora: "Jayce, don't go with him! The General is so afraid and confused -- I don't trust him."
Jayce: "I sensed that too, Flora, even without your powers."
Jayce: "Okay, Herc? You understand what I want you to do?"
Herc: "Sure, sure kid... but you've been breathing too much space dust. The General's okay -- take it from me!"
Jayce: "I hope so -- we really need him."
Flora: "Lily pad, can I take just a little bit of your beautiful clear water? (Two lily leaves spin swiftly in the river) What?! Something bad in the water?!"
Jayce: "Spike Trike, override manual controls! Initiate Battle Plan B!"
Spike Trike: "Command acknowledged, Battle Plan B!"
Flora (cooing over a white-blossomed plant): "Oh plant, you're wonderful! It's so happy that Gillian wants to use its leaves in the potion. Now all of Dumas' men will be well again, thanks to you!"
General Ghest: "NO! Don't go in there! GO BACK! (Blocks the path with Spike Trike) There are Monster Minds inside!"
Jayce & Darrin: "Huh?!"
Oon: "M-M-Monster Minds?!"
Herc: "Thanks for leaving Quick Draw behind for me, kid. But wait till you see the bill I give you for repairing it!"
Oon: "HOORAY! Victory for honor and courage!"
Jayce: "...Without General Ghest and his Commandos, we couldn't have done anything."
General Ghest: "No. It's not true. I am a coward, and a traitor."
Darrin: "No, you aren't, father. You just proved it in that battle."
Herc (searching all around the steering console): "Hey! Anybody see that medal General Ghest gave me?"
Jayce: "I thought you were going to melt it down, Herc."
Herc: "Well, sure, I-I mean, uh... eventually... but, uh..."
Flora: "Then you won't mind if a REAL hero wears it until then -- right?"
(Flora walks up, carrying her new plant friend displaying it. Herc smiles & shrugs, making her grin & the others smile in bemusement)
