"Blockade Runners"
To save themselves from the Monster Minds, the people of the planet Baz killed off all their plant life by regularly spraying their soil with defoliants. The Monster Minds retaliated by sending their vines to blockade the planet and cut off all food shipments, leaving the people to starve. The Princess of Baz, Ina, sent her robot servant, Dar, off for help.
He turned into a black egg-shaped satellite and flew off into space, eventually running into the Lightning League. The League journeyed to Baz to drop off what food they had, and the vines, mysteriously, allowed them to pass through without too much of a struggle. Upon landing, Flora was affected by the defoliants. She had difficulty breathing, her hair slowly turned blue, and she felt very tired as her general health declined. The League attempted to leave Baz in order to save her, but the vines blocked their way.
Jayce devised a plan -- he would distract the Monster Mind vehicles on the blockade while Gillian and Herc dropped defoliant cannisters on the vines. When Flora detonated them by remote control, the vines soaked up the defoliants and die. The defoliants created a permanent gaseous barrier beyond Baz's atmosphere, thus ensuring that the Monster Minds could never reach the planet again.
Flora recovered, and the fields of Baz once again teemed with flowers and grasses.
Ina offered Jayce the kingship of her people, but he declined so that he could continue on his quest. After he kissed Ina goodbye, the League boarded the Pride and travelled back to space.
Flora (shocked): "Why would you destroy all your plant life?"
Gillian (kind): "To make the planet unfit for Monster Minds. I know this must seem savage to you..."
Jayce: "Prepare the ship for immediate takeoff! We must take Flora to safety, but will return with more food."
Princess Ina: "I offer you the services of my robot, Dar. He's a navigational expert in this quadrant. (Whispers) Good luck, brave Lightning League." (Softly kisses Jayce on the cheek, leaving them both smiling)
