Chimes of Sharpis

The Lightning League observed some Monster Mind vines trying to attack a planet. They could not get through because of a force field covering the entire world.

Thinking that Audric may have created the field, Jayce decided to investigate. Both he and Gillian created a device that could briefly open a rift in the force field, just large enough for the Pride to slip through. A Monster Mind satellite followed them into the planet's atmosphere before the artificial rift closed.

The League landed safely on the planet Sharpis. (Lizzard's Note: This is pronounced "char-peeze.") They met a native tribe of slender monkey-like humanoids with psychedellic-colored hair striped like Jayce's. Tanitha, the tribe's leader, reported that no other outsiders had ever visited the world in known memory.

The reason for this was Sharpis' giant white tower, built by a race known as the Old Ones. (Lizzard's Note: The Old Ones are apparently the same as the Visani of Steel Against Shadow fame.) It created the planet's force field and played music eleven times a day, which magically accelerated plant growth and released red-vapored "ghosts" from the Spirit Orchids. Though they are normally small, the tower encouraged the ghosts' growth so that they become quite large. When this happened, they go about the planet, feeding upon electronics and destroying machinery.

The Lightning League repelled a sudden Monster Mind attack by the satellite troopers and set out to guard the planet's tower. Jayce asked Gillian to calculate when the chimes will play next, then used this information to trap the Monster Minds. When the ghosts came forth, the League shut down their vehicles. The ghosts, not detecting active energy within the inert League machines, only demolished the incoming enemy troops.

The League destroyed the remaining Monster Mind vehicles and vines that were still trying to get past the force field. Gillian set the chimes to ring so frequently that Sharpis would never again be defenseless.

The Pride then left to continue searching for Audric.
