"Circus Planet"

(Series Finale)
Written by J. Michael Straczynski

The Lightning League tracked Audric to an uninhabited planet, where the Root's reactions led them to a nearby mountain. Since there were no caves or tunnels to permit entry, and Drill Sergeant was temporarily out of action, Jayce used Armed Force's Density Decreaser to travel inside of it.

There he found a small laboratory and a message -- Audric would wait for Jayce on the Circus Planet until Free Day in the Month of the Star. This meant the League only had two days to reach his new location.

After arriving on the Circus Planet, a world crammed to bursting with tents, rides, performers, games, and amusements, the League split up to better their chances of finding Audric. Audric searched for them as well, his own Root alerting him to the presence of Jayce's half. Saw Boss launched an invasion to capture Audric, Jayce, and the Roots.

Jayce and Herc warned the Ringmaster of the Circus Planet of the danger posed by the Monster Minds. The Ringmaster instigated mass panic upon announcing that "we are under attack," and people fled in all directions, running right into the arriving Monster Mind troopers.

Jayce ordered the League members to return to the Pride, but Flora continued to look for Audric, with Gillian accompanying her. When Monster Minds arrived at the barge, Jayce and Herc launched the vehicles.

Gillian and Flora rallied the circus performers into defending their world from invasion. With the natives' help, the League began defeating the Monster Minds.

Audric managed to find Gillian, who then saved Flora from being run over by a Saw Trooper. As it advanced towards them, a teleportation beam shot by a malfunctioning machine transported the Monster Mind somewhere else. After the other other enemy troopers were defeated, Jayce and Audric spotted each other, their much-anticipated reunion seemingly at hand.

Right before they could embrace, another freak teleportation ray sent Audric to an unknown location. The teleportation machine broke down moments later, leaving the Lightning League no way of discovering where Audric had gone.

They were back at square one.

The Quest Continues...

(This was originally meant to be the final episode of the series, leading directly into the movie written by J. Michael Straczynski. Sadly, the movie never materialized.)

Memorable Quotes

Herc: "I'm telling you, kid, you're beating your head against a brick wall! This planet is nothing but rock and dirt and more rocks!"

Jayce: "Activating Density Decreaser!"
Herc: "Waaait a minute, kid! You sure you wanna do that? That thing was made so you drive through thick walls, not a whole mountain!"

Audric: "Jayce! He's here! He found my message! I must find him!"

Herc: "Hmph, must pull in a lot of dough with this set-up, right Oon -- Oon?"
Jayce: "Where is he?!"
Herc: "Ahhh, probably getting oiled or something!"

Candy Clown: "It's called 'Carnivorous Candy' -- you eat it, before it eats you!"

Teleportation Vendor: "Yep-yep, Crockett's Teleportation Clinic can send you anywhere in the galaxy you want to go! From the rings of Mellotron to um, ah, eh -- to the Mutara Nebula! Like that!"
Flora: "Can you really do all that?"
Teleportation Vendor: "Well, little one, if you promise not to tell anyone -- yes I can! Sometimes... when the machine works properly."
Flora: "When was the last time it worked?
Teleportation Vendor: "Uh, well, um, about a hundred years ago -- but I'm sure I'll have it up and running any day now! (As the machine crackles menacingly) Well, um, uh, maybe not that soon."

Audric: "Excuse me, but I'm looking for my son, and his friends. I know they're around here somewhere."
Snig (Monster Mind Spy): "You seek Jayce, yes?"
Audric (suspiciously): "Perhaps! How do you know his name?
Snig: "Looking for you, he is. Came by here not long ago. Left messages where you could find him, he did."
Audric: "Where is he?"
Snig: "You pay, I tell. Money first."
Audric (angrily): "I will NOT bargin with money for my son! Where is he?!"
Snig: (Points towards a distant big top tent) "Said you meet him there. He wait."

Saw Boss: "At last; both the accursed boy and his meddlesome father are within my grasp!"
Gun Grinner: "The spy satellite is in place, Excellency."
Saw Boss: "Then prepare for invasion! We will do anything we have to. We will destroy the very planet if necessary, but we will destroy them both -- NOW!"

Saw Boss: "Now, in the name of the Black Light -- destroy the Lightning League!"

Herc: "Let me guess; more trouble, right?"
Jayce: "And big! Let's go; I'll explain on the way."
Oon (resigned): "Big trouble; is there any other kind?"

Ringmaster: "Now, what's all this about Monster Minds?"
Jayce: "They're going to attack! You have to get ready, protect yourselves!"
Ringmaster: "My dear lad, in a thousand years this circus has never been attacked. We have neutrality."
Herc: "Well, you'd better attack your defense systems anyway, you're gonna need them!"
Ringmaster: "My dear sir, we don't have any such systems."
Herc: "I can't believe it; I'm surrounded by clowns!"
Skinny Clown: "You called?"
Herc: "Beat it!"

Herc: "You better tell the customers they're getting more of a show than they bargained for!"
Ringmaster (over loudspeakers): "Ladies and gentlemen, aliens of all ages! We are, uhhh, we are under attack!"
Big Top Crowd (running for their lives in various stages of panic): "AAHHHHHHHHHH! AIIIIEEEEEEE! AAAAAAAAAAAA!"

Jayce: "Now let's teach these Monster Minds what they mean by 'the show must go on!' Lightning Strikes!"

Herc: "NOW what're we gonna do?!"
Jayce: "One, find Father and the Root! Two, destroy the Monster Minds with it!"
Herc: "And three?"
Jayce: "Stay alive!"

Gillian: "You have only to decide to resist. As long as the will to be free exists, the greatest battle is already won!"

Jayce: "We were so CLOSE, Gillian!"
Gillian: "I know. But remember that it was destiny that brought us here, and destiny that called away your father. The universe has its own logic, my boy; we cannot question it! We can only be certain that we will find your father again -- and on that day, we will TRIUMPH!"
