Double Agent Zorg

Written by Larry DiTillio

The Pride landed on Sahlor, a radioactive desert planet ravaged by nuclear war.

There they were contacted by Dr. Zorg, who -- to quote Gillian -- was "Audric's most bitter rival in the scientific field." Zorg offered to help Jayce find Audric. Oon strongly objected, stating that he would sooner trust Saw Boss than Zorg. Jayce agreed to meet with Zorg anyway.

Gillian adapted the vehicles for desert and radiation survival. Gillian, Oon, and Jayce drove them to Zorg's base, located in the hottest region of the planet. Suspecting a trap, Flora secretly followed them in Fling Shot. Herc, in turn, tracked Flora in Spike Trike, and arrived just in time to save her from some carnivorous plants. Despite the danger, Flora still insisted on pursuing the others, and Herc joined in to keep her out of trouble.

Meanwhile, Jayce, Oon, and Gillian arrived at Zorg's base. Spotting Flora and Herc, the scientist jammed all communications and used sonics to shatter their vehicles' windows. Their vehicles crashed; exposed to the environment, they began to suffer from radiation poisoning. Falling to further treachery, Gillian, Jayce, and Oon were knocked unconscious and dumped in a cell whose walls blocked all transmissions. Zorg took away the Root and Ring of Light, then placed a Psych-Inhibitor in Gillian's brain to prevent him from using magic.

Zorg prepared to meet with Saw Boss. In exchange for Jayce and the Root, Zorg would receive the contents of Audric's old lab computer, located in the Monster Minds' headquarters. Saw Boss, pleased with Zorg's success, granted the scientist full access. Under his gaze, Zorg began downloading the information.

Jayce, Gillian, and Oon tricked their robot guards into opening the cell. Jayce quickly sent out a signal, ordering the vehicles to rescue them. At the same time, Brock and the Zoggies managed to launch Motor Module from Battle Base. It repaired the wrecked Fling Shot and Spike Trike, which Flora and Herc then used to complete the journey to Zorg's base. Jayce let them inside and located a decontamination chamber that cured their radiation poisoning.

Gillian discovered that Zorg was downloading information from Audric's computer. He inputted Audric's emergency erase code to delete the data from both Audric and Zorg's computers. The Monster Minds tried to destroy Zorg when they found out Jayce escaped, but they fail. Zorg fled back to his base and initiated the self-destruct sequence. He then tried to stun the League members so that they would be left behind in the doomed building. Oon deflected Zorg's beams using his Magic Lance, stunning the scientist instead of his prey!

After Gillian returned the Root and Ring of Light to Jayce, the League abandoned the base. Zorg managed to awake in time to escape by piloting a small ship up into space. The base exploded, taking with it all the Monster Mind forces inside.

The explosion started a chain reaction that would ultimately cause the unstable planet to destroy itself. Saw Boss teleported his base away from the planet. The League members rendezvous with Battle Base and tried to return to the barge, but there was not enough time. As a last resort, Jayce called upon the Ring of Light to teleport Battle Base onto the Pride, which had already been launched.

Sahlor detonated seconds later -- with the Lightning League watching at a safe distance in space.
