"Fire and Ice"
The Pride approached Radex IX, an ice-world where an enormous volcano was primed to erupt in ten hours. Carved into the ground was a marker in the shape of Jayce's Root medallion. He assumed it was a signal left by Audric, but Gillian was doubtful, stating that it could have been made by those hostile to the League. After the ship landed beside snowbound ice-cliffs, the League took a closer look at the carvings, but found no hard evidence that Audric was ever there. However, they did discover Monster Mind vines buried right beneath the icy surface. The League attempted to leave, but vibrations from the barge's engines caused an avalanche that buried it under tons of snow.
During their efforts to dig the ship out, a race of diminutive snow-people appeared (think hobbits with hockey pucks instead of feet), asking for the League's help in stopping the volcano before it destroyed their world. Jayce devised a wild scheme: build an ice-dam above the volcano, fill it to bursting with snow and ice chunks, and break it to freeze things beneath the resulting flood. Everyone got to work except for Herc, who thought Jayce's plan was insane. But even Herc pitched in to help once Gillian incited his greed by casting an illusion over a hunk of ice, making it shine like a diamond.
Precious time slipped away, especially when the League stopped work to battle incoming Monster Mind troopers. When the ten hours had elapsed, it was uncertain whether or not enough snow and ice had been gathered to stop the volcano. Despite Jayce's orders, none of the League would leave to save themselves. The Monster Minds launched another attack by growing their troops in the chasm between the volcano and the dam. Jayce and Oon ran on top of the latter and tricked the enemy vehicles into blasting open its wall. The icy flood that poured through overwhelmed the Monster Minds, then buried everything within the volcano's crater, cooling its red-hot magma down sufficiently enough to cancel the eruption.
The world was saved and Saw Boss was beaten again, yet Herc was despondent -- he discovered that there were no diamonds on the planet after all!
Jayce: "It's a signal from my father. It's gotta be!"
Oon: "It is, it is!"
Gillian: "The signs we see are oftimes the signs we want to see."
Herc: "That volcano down there is getting hot enough to cook eggs!"
Jayce: "How long till it blows?"
Gillian: "Ten hours..."
Herc: "Give or take a couple of minutes."
Gillian: "We could be flying into a trap..."
Herc: "Ha-ha -- it's the kid's style, y'know?"
(After seeing the results of the avalanche)
Herc: "Anybody know when summer gets here?"
Saw Boss: "Ten hours from now, the Lightning League will cease to exist!"
Gun Grinner: "It was a great plan, Oh Lord of the Universe!"
Terror Tank: "The ice fell, just the way you said it would!"
Saw Boss: "At last, the universe is mine!"
Flora: "They'll find a way to get us out."
Oon: "WHOOOOOOAHHH! Eyes! Eyes in the snow!"
Gillian: "Ice in the snow?"
Oon: "Eyes! Eyes!"
Jayce: "Stopping that volcano's the only way to buy the time we need."
Herc: "You can't stop a volcano!"
Jayce: "We can try...!"
Herc: "Jayce, you're crazy!"
Jayce: "It's the only chance we've got! If we can pour enough ice into that volcano, we can cool it down. We pile the ice behind the dam, and as soon as there's enough, we let it go. It'll work!"
Herc: "Huh, yeah, maybe in a week! You got nine hours!"
Herc: "I'll get shot at, I'll freeze half to death, I'll even wait for my money! But pal, I'm no ditch digger -- especially when it's a lost cause! I'm for taking the Emergency Cruiser and blasting outta here!"
Jayce: "Well, we all do what we have to do."
Saw Boss: "So, they're going to try to save themselves by saving the planet. Never! Unleash my legions!"
Gillian: "Ah! I haven't had this much exercise since I was three hundred!"
Herc: "Nobody runs all over my diamond mine!"
Jayce: "Herc, take the Emergency Cruiser and get out. Go on -- and take Flora and Gillian with you."
Herc: "What about you?"
Jayce: "I'm the only one who can command all our vehicles."
Herc: "You gotta come with us!"
Jayce: "I just can't forget about them! And I won't risk their lives."
Flora: "I'm not going!"
Gillian: "Nor I!"
Herc: "Well, ah, looks like I'm staying too. Ah, there's those diamonds, you know."
Jayce: "HEY! We're not afraid of you! Come on, hit me if you can!"
Oon: "Yeah, we're not afraid of you!"
