"Flora, Fauna, and the Monster Minds"

Saw Boss launched drill vines at the Pride, forcing the Lightning League to land on the nearest planet. The vines invaded its water supply, making Jayce dump all their water into space to avoid contamination and invasion from within. The League found a nearby habitable planet, then travelled there to obtain fresh water and repair the damage caused by the drill vines.

While Jayce, Herc, and Oon pumped water from a nearby river, Gillian searched for a new Cobalt-49 crystal to put in the internal guidance module, which had been damaged during the attack. Such a crystal was necessary to control the barge's direction in flight. As Gillian searched among the huge local diamonds for Cobalt-49, Flora followed him on Brock, enjoying the scenery and talking it up with the local plants. But after a brief chase involving interior mountain-climbing and a mad dash to the nearby waterfall, Gillian and Flora were captured by the Monster Minds, who wanted to use them as bait to trap Jayce.

Led by Brock, Jayce and Oon ventured out in Armed Force to rescue them. They succeeded in getting Flora back, but Gillian fell into the base of a waterfall and disappeared. No trace of the wizard could be found, even when Brock dove underwater to search for him. Herc wanted to leave the planet immediately, assuming that Gillian had perished, but the others convinced him to stay so that they could find the wizard.

Jayce, Oon, Flora, and Brock ventured out once again to search. Flora sensed Gillian's presence and steered Drill Sergeant into a dead-end canyon. Using it to tunnel underground, she finally located her friend in a cavern of Cobalt-49.

Monster Mind troopers attacked the others in overwhelming numbers, but Jayce defeated them by calling upon the Ring of Light, whose magic triggered to an earthquake to swallow the enemy vehicles (and nearly Saw Boss' Headquarters). Everyone returned to the barge, the Pride's guidance system and water supply were restored, and the Lightning League continued its quest to find Audric.

Chronological Note: This episode appears to belong early in the chronology, as this is the only story in which Jayce is not able to recognize the Monster Mind headquarters on sight. When he sees the circular structure he exclaims: "What is that?" Obviously this is the first time he has encountered it.

Memorable Quotes

Herc: "How in the cosmos did this get aboard?!"

Herc: "Jayce, what're you doing?!"
Jayce: "Dumping the water!"
Herc: "Oh! Oh, okay... what?!"

Oon: "Ohhh, good thinking, my Master!"
Herc: "Ohhh, oh yeah, that was great thinking! Now we're really up the galaxy without a thruster!"

Jayce: "Put her down, Herc. We'll make repairs and take on water."
Herc: "Have it your way, hotshot."

Jayce: "As soon as the water is aboard, I'll take you out in Armed Force."
Gillian: "Don't worry, my boy, I shall not go too far! Heh-heh, a little walk will do my old legs some good, heh-heh-heh!"

Jayce: "Maybe we can shake the kink out..."
Oon: "I'll get it out! I'll do it with my Magic Lance!"

Jayce: "Heh, let's get you dried out before you rust solid!"

Saw Boss: "When the trap is ready, prepare the receptacle for me! I'll finish this boy off myself!"

Gillian: "Diamonds. Just old diamonds! Where's Cobalt-49 when you need it?"

Flora (talking with the local plants): "Hi! We came to your planet for some water!"

Gillian: "Ah, just another diamond again!"

(While climbing for their lives)
Gillian (winded): "*Gasp* Please, Flora, a-a little slower! Age does have its drawbacks -- ahhhhh!"
Flora (slightly breathless): "Whew! You can do it Gillian!"
Gillian (winded): "Ahhh, I-I can try!"

Herc: "Knock it off, Brock! Go goof around with somebody else! Oof, if my old friends could see me now -- talking to a fish!"

Gillian: "I think we're in trouble..."

K.O. Kruiser: "Clear the receptacle, Terror Trooper. Our Lord's headquarters will be teleported to your planet on his command!"
Terror Trooper: "The trap is set, Lord Saw Boss! Soon Jayce and his magic Root will be ours!"

Jayce: "We can't take the risk of having the Pride attacked on the ground!"
Herc: "Oh, I can get the old girl off the ground. But without the Cobalt-49, I can't control her direction!"
Jayce: "Just stay in the air out of reach of the Monster Minds."

Jayce: "Armed Force -- full throttle!"
Armed Force: "Command acknowledged!"

Jayce: "I've got to free Gillian and Flora!"

Gillian: "Quick, Brock! Take Flora to Jayce!"
Flora: "But, Gillian -- what about you?"
Gillian: "I have a magic spell up my sleeve!"

Gillian: "Too bad I can't remember it!"

Saw Boss: "You incompetant fools! Must I do everything myself?! For the glory of the Black Light, I go!"

(When Saw Boss' headquarters materializes next door to Armed Force)
Jayce: "What IS that?"
Flora: "Jayce, I sense a strong evil force!"
Jayce: "Well anyway, let's head back to the barge!"

Jayce: "Turn it around, Herc! We MUST find Gillian!"
Herc (resigned): "I'm sorry, kid, but he's gone. We have to save ourselves."
Jayce (stunned): "Herc!"

Gillian: "I'm glad I remembered the magic spell, heh-heh! It was beginning to get humid down there!"

Saw Boss: "This is as far as you go. The ROOT, Jayce!"
Jayce: "You're not getting the Root yet, Saw Boss. Ring, in the name of the Lightning League, help me with your powers!"

Gillian: "How's the guidance system operating?"
Herc: "It's hard to admit it, but... good work, Gillian. Well, hotshot, what're your orders?"
Jayce: "Simple: let's find my father!"
