"Moon Magic"

The Lightning League transported Gillian to the Magician's Planet, whose satellite Nightmoon "gives mystical essence to our magic." Once every hundred new moons, the Nightmoon's energy was at its greatest, and wizards all across the universe gathered in a ritual to strengthen their magical powers. Many wizard children came as well, both for instruction and to watch the ritual. The League witnessed various magics being performed while Gillian obtains news of Audric's appearances from other wizards. Due to the dangerous strength of Nightmoon's magic, Jayce placed his Root in a small protective container devised by Gillian, then hid it above Herc's navigation console on the Pride.

Saw Boss sent magical bees to sting the two leaders of the child wizards, Solarr and Dev, thus placing them under his mental control. At the ritual that night, after the adult magicians transferred their powers into the Crystal Orb, the clouds overhead parted to reveal a red Nightmoon; it had been tainted with evil because Monster Mind vines invaded it. The magicians were unable to withdraw their magics from the Orb. The two leading child wizards used their powers to bring the other magician children under Saw Boss' control.

They then turned against the Lightning League. When the majority were enclosed within a circle of magical flame, Herc grabbed Oon's Lance to throw as a weapon. It was used instead to shield him and Jayce from a hail of needle-like rain, bending in half from the strain. The child wizards magically imprisoned all save for Oon and Gillian inside a marble. After some encouragement from Gillian, Oon rescued them by making his way to and breaking open the marble with his Lance. Jayce summoned the vehicles, and the League defeated incoming Monster Mind troops.

Saw Boss ordered that the Orb be shot off on a satellite into space. Jayce climbed onto the launching satellite and touched the Orb; crackling bolts from its surface struck him dead-on, turning him a bright glowing white from absorbing the forces within it. He used the Ring of Light to cut the vines off Nightmoon's surface, then concentrated and sent the magical forces stored within him back into the Orb. It released the stored magics, raining down the powers upon the adult wizards and freeing the child wizards from Saw Boss' mental control. Gillian teleported Jayce and the Orb back down to the planet, Herc repaired Oon's Lance, and things were returned to normal.

Memorable Quotes

Gillian: "The moon that you see is the Nightmoon; it's the moon that gives mystical essence to our magic! Once every hundred new moons, the Nightmoon's power is the strongest. All the wizards of the universe gather for our ritual, for strengthening our magical powers!"

Saw Boss: "The Magician's Planet will elude me no longer!"
Gun Grinner: "But Excellency, their combined magical powers have always been too great for us!"
Saw Boss: "Until now. The Nightmoon which gives the children their power is now mine! Tomorrow night at the ceremony, when all the old wizards of the universe lock their magical powers into the Orb, they won't be able to get them out again. I want the child wizards to be at MY command by the time the next moon rises!"
Gun Grinner: "Yes, sir!"

Jayce: "I feel almost naked without the Root! But Gillian's cylinder has protected its life-force from the effects of the Nightmoon."

Gillian: "Concentration is imperative for successful levitation. And concentration is simply a discipline of the mind!"

Flora: "Power's so beautiful when it's used for goodness."
Herc: "Ahhh, it's all gobbletygook to me!"

Wizard Leader: "Powers of magic, mix and grow strong so that we may share your strength!"

Solarr (possessed): "The Nightmoon's stained by the heart of evil; we're unable to withdraw our powers!"

Gillian: "In the name of all that's good, I command you to stop!"

Saw Boss: "The magical powers of the wizards are enclosed in the Orb, the child magicians are mine, and the Lightning League has finally fallen into my hands!" (Cue evil laughter)

Herc: "Hey, easy does it! You know, I'll bet this whole thing is some kind of illusion. (Throws a punch into the marble's solid side) Mmmf... OW! On the other hand, maybe not."

Jayce: "Oon!"
Herc: "Hey, Tin Head! Ho ho, I'd knew you'd come through someday!"
Oon (laughing nervously): "Ha-heh, heh-heh, ha-ha-ha, somebody pinch me so that I know I'm alive!"
Flora: "How do you pinch a suit of armor?"

Gillian: "Is everybody all right?"
Herc: "Yeah, as long as we don't have to go back inside that marble!"

Jayce: "All vehicles, Command Mode Zebra X-Ray!"
League Vehicles: "Command acknowledged!"

Herc: "Hey kid, give me the skid gun! I hope they like to ski!"
Jayce: "Skid gun for Stack'N'Attack -- right now!"

Gillian: "No, Jayce, don't touch it! The forces of the Orb are tremendous; you may not survive!"
Jayce: "But, I must rescue your magical powers!"
Flora: "Jayce!"
Jayce: "I have no choice; I must try!"

Jayce: "Ring of Light, Magic Might!"

Jayce: "Thanks, Gillian; that was a little too close!"
Gillian: "What I did was nothing compared to what you did."

Gillian: "The skilled wizard can rearrange matter in any conceivable shape he likes! Hmmm-hm-hm! (Changes a rose into an apple) Well, the skilled wizard also never goes hungry!" (Laughs softly)

Herc: "Hey, Tin Can! Hah, I've got something for you!"
Oon: "Ouch! Oof... it-it's my Lance! But how much magic is left in it?"
Herc (sincerely): "Just as much as before!" (Winks at Jayce after Oon leaves)
Jayce (thoughtfully): "You know, you're not too bad -- for a tough guy!"
