"The Slaves of Adlebaren"

One of the most important planets held by the Monster Minds was Adlebaren, a source of nutrients vital in nourishing their sterile worlds, ensuring their forces continued domination.

Its human population, ranging from the very young to old, was used as slave labor to work in an enormous nutrient mine. There had been several escape attempts to get past the force-barrier separating the people from their weapons, but they had all failed. In a renewed attempt, many families had boarded a huge drilling machine that plowed straight into the barrier, but was not able to break through, taking heavy energy damage. They barely escaped before it exploded spectacularly, knocking everyone off their feet. Monster Mind troopers quickly recaptured all of the runaway slaves.

Kumari, a teenage girl, was forcibly separated from the rest and told by Saw Boss that she must obey his commands or she would never see her younger brother and sister again. After she was given instructions for her mission, she was set adrift in space in a life-pod whose life-support systems barely functioned. When the Pride entered the area, the Lightning League rescued her.

She told them a half-true story about Adlebaren's plight. They agreed to help her, but Flora sensed that Kumari was hiding something. After Flora revealed her concerns to Gillian, he told Kumari about the Lightning League, explaining that Jayce was the universe's only hope to defeat the Monster Minds. Right before they touched down on the planet, Kumari broke down and admitted that Saw Boss had set a trap for them.

Overriding Herc's wish to escape, Jayce asked her to reveal everything she knew about the trap so that the League could trick and defeat Saw Boss. While everyone else did their tasks, Jayce distracted the Monster Mind vehicles in a pitched battle. Gillian, Herc, and Oon worked together to deactivate the force field that was keeping the slaves imprisoned. After reaching the fortified power station controlling it, the Squire was literally dropped piece-by-piece into the air shafts too small for anyone else to navigate. Once he reassembled himself, he was able to turn the force field off. Kumari and Flora, using Drill Sergeant, rescue Kumari's brother and sister.

Kumari then encouraged her people to rise up in rebellion. When the force field was finally deactivated, the slaves seized their weapons and forced the enemy troops to retreat. The Monster Minds ended up being trapped behind their own force field. Adlebaren was finally free!

Memorable Quotes

Saw Boss: "As I thought! That meddling boy and his friends will pass close to the planet Adlebaren. I'm sure they'd like to stop our mining there, as soon as we inform them of it."
Gun Grinner: "But Excellency, the mining on Adlebaren is crucial to nourishing the sterile planets of our Empire."
Saw Boss: "Our nutrient mine on Adlebaren is safe. It's those miserable humans who are NOT!"

Gun Trooper: "Get back to work! You're falling behind quota! FASTER! Or next time, I won't miss!"

Kumari's Brother: "Kumari!"
Kumari's Sister: "I'm afraid, Kumari!"
Kumari's Brother: "I'm not!"
Kumari: "This is our only chance to be free of the Monster Minds! Just... Just hold on to me now, and don't be afraid!"

Rebel: "The force field is too strong!"
Saw Boss: "YES, IT IS! And working very well, I see... take them away, except for the girl, and her brother and sister!"
Kumari: "Please, they had nothing to do with this!"
Saw Boss: "You will do exactly as I say, or you will never see these two humans you seem so fond of again!"

(Flora accidentally drenches Herc with a bucket of water meant for Oon's bath)
Flora: "Oops! Sorry, Herc; I meant to hit Oon!"
Herc (irritated): "Heeey! Do I look like that sawed-off bucket of bolts?!"
Flora (hiding her laughter): "No, Herc."

Gillian: "She's barely alive! We must get her to the Infirmary, quickly."

Kumari: "My people are ready to rebel, but they need help desperately!"
Jayce: "Easy, Kumari. If we're going to help your people and stop the flow of ore to the Monster Minds, we need to know EVERYTHING about Adlebaren."

Oon: "How m-m-many Monster Minds are there on Adlebaren?"
Kumari: "Not many! Without our weapons, they only need a few guards."
Oon: "Whoo! Well, in that case, we'll be honored to aid my Master in the freeing of your planet... (Herc slams Oon's eyeplate down onto his mouth) OOF!"
Herc: "Speak for yourself, Metal Mouth!"

Jayce: "Come on, Herc, we've got work to do!"
Herc: "I really hate it when you say that."

(After Gillian fastens a small video camera on top of Oon's head)
Gillian: "Ah! There we go, Oon. Now I'll be able to see exactly what you're seeing."
Oon: "It's giving me a headache -- or a helmet-ache!"
Gillian (wisely): "But with it, you will be able us to shut down the force field! A headache is a small price to pay, my brave Oon, for freeing a planet!"
Oon (energized): "In that case, I'll be my usual heroic self!"

Flora: "There's something wrong with Kumari -- I mean, with what she's telling us."
Gillian: "And you feel strongly about your suspicions, Flora?"
Flora: "Yes, very strong."
Gillian: "Do not worry, my child. Truth is ever yearning to be revealed!"

Gillian: "Kumari! I've been looking all over for you."
Kumari: "I-I'm feeling so much better, I thought a walk mught do me good."
Gillian (compassionately): "Excellent! Come walk with me -- sometimes an old man needs to talk, especially during trying times. Thank Heaven you arrived here in your quest to save your people. Jayce is the only hope in the entire universe to rid us all of the Monster Minds!"
Kumari (surprised): "I-I didn't know that."
Gillian (knowingly): "Let me tell you about him, and the Lightning League."

Kumari: "We must land here by the warehouses!"
Flora: "No, Jayce, we can't! Something will happen, I just know it."
Jayce: "Hey-hey, Flora! Come on, now! Kumari said it's a safe place to land."
Flora: "Is it, Kumari?"
Gillian: "IS it, Kumari?"
Kumari (winning her internal struggle): "No! Saw Boss has my brother and sister. I'll never see them again, unless I lead you into his trap."
Herc: "We're outta here!"
Jayce: "Hold it, Herc! Kumari, we'll still free your brother and sister, and all of Adlebaren."
Kumari (insistent): "But don't you understand, it's a trap!"
Jayce: "A trap is a trap only if you don't know it's there, but now we know. We can turn the tables on Saw Boss, but you have to tell me EVERYTHING that's going on down there!"

Herc: "Gillian, I've seen earthquakes steadier than this illusion!"
Gillian: "It's a difficult spell! And it tends to weaken with time and distance. But it should get you to the power station, IF you hurry!"
Oon: "Hurry up, Herc!"

Jayce: "Did everyone get away from the Pride, Gillian?"
Gillian: "They're on their way, Jayce. As Herc would say, 'I'm gone!'"

Jayce: "Time for a game of Monster Mind dominos!"

Herc: "I think we lost him. Knock off the racket, Oon!"
Oon: "I'm t-t-t-trying, Herc!"

Gillian: "The Monster Minds' headquarters is still sending reinforcements! Jayce, be careful!"
Jayce: "I'll drive the troopers in circles as long as I can!"

Gillian: "Steady, Oon! I must see clearly!"
Oon: "Steady, with all of these M-M-Monster Minds around?!"

Oon: "Herc! How could you do this?! How could you take apart a proud warrior?!"
Herc: "Stow it, Tin Can! This is the only way you'll fit down the airshaft!"

Herc: "Your Master's in a hurry!"
Oon: "Isn't there some other way?"
Herc: "Nope! When you get down there, pull yourself together and get to work!"
Oon: "This is no time for jokes!"
Herc: "Who's joking? Heh-heh, take care of yourself, Tin Can!"

Kumari: "Finally, we can rid our planet of the Monster Minds -- the Lightning League is here to help us!"
Rebel #1: "I saw their fighting machine!"
Kumari: "They have more vehicles! The League will shut down the force field so we can get to our own weapons!"
Rebel #2: "It can't be done. It's too dangerous to try another escape!"
Kumari: "We don't have time to argue. We must go NOW!"

Jayce: "Quick Draw, activate Defense Plan A! Spike Trike, activate Defense Plan A! Drill Sergeant...!"
Herc: "Save your breath, kid; this baby's mine!"

Jayce: "We'll hold the Monster Minds back! Good luck, Kumari!"

Jayce: "The Monster Minds will never get in again, thanks to their own force field."
Oon (angrily): "'Take yourself apart and hold on, Tin Can!' This is NO WAY for a Squire to be TREATED!"
Jayce: "You did a great service for the League and the people of Adlebaren, Oon!"
Herc: "Yeah! For once you fell apart at the right time!"
(After Herc snaps Oon's head back on, the Squire stands and promptly falls apart, making everyone else LOL)
