SoultreeJayce and Oon made their way into an old space station under attack by the Monster Minds. Their ally, Professor I'Lah (who first appeared in Braintrust), had told them that someone sent a signal from there -- possibly Audric! Jayce ordered Fling Shot to distract the troopers by shooting Photon Disks in a spread pattern. The enemy vehicles ended up knocking each other out in resulting dust and smoke. Jayce and Oon ventured inside to discover a message left by Audric. He was headed for the planet Arboren to prevent Saw Boss from allying with another evil, devious plant creature, and asked Jayce to meet him there. The Pride sped to Arboren, but scans showed no signs of Audric, or any other animal life for that matter. The Lightning League found itself on a planet consisting solely of lush vegetation. Gillian sensed that a nearby tree had great magical power, so they headed there in the vehicles to investigate. The surrounding forest suddenly attacked them, knocking them out one by one. They awakened as prisoners in a chamber beneath the very tree they were trying to investigate. The tree is called Soultree. Its guardian, Irradel, and her Eternal Squire, Leese, had captured the League because they were fooled by Saw Boss' lies. He had passed himself off as a "noble majesty" who couldn't understand why the League always attacked him. Irradel had agreed to get the Root and to allow Saw Boss' vines to tap the power of Soultree. The League was freed, however, when Oon convinced Leese to let them go. Jayce rescued Irradel and the Root from Saw Boss. Realizing her mistake, Irradel tried to use Soultree to repel the invaders, but much to her horror, she discovered that Saw Boss had assumed control of it. With the other vehicles out of commission, Jayce summoned Battle Base, Fling Shot, Quick Draw, Spray Gunner, and Trail Blazer. The League fought the enemy troopers while Gillian and Irradel tried to come up with something magical to stop them. They soon hit upon a solution: use the Root's magic power to restore Soultree to the side of good. Unfortunately, the Root could be damaged or even destroyed in the process. Jayce handed it over, telling them it was their only chance for survival. The two magicians chanted incantations over the Root that released its power into Soultree. The resulting surge of energy overwhelmed the Monster Minds, forcing them to retreat. In the battle's aftermath, Jayce finds that the Root had been killed. The grateful Irradel asked Soultree to restore it, and the Root became whole once more. The Root's goodness had become part of Soultree, meaning that the Monster Minds could never take it over again.
